Malcolm X and Chinese

Finally, finally got around to finishing The Autobiography of Malcolm X. I was surprised to read this excerpt:

Aside from the basic African dialects, I would try to learn Chinese, because it looks as if Chinese will be the most powerful political language of the future.

I immediately flipped to the front to find the Copyright date of 1964. I'm amazed that Malcolm X could've predicted something like this, that many years ago.

Good thing the BF and I have signed up for Chinese class! Here's to 2009 resolutions.

I was watching an episode of Intervention, where an addict had to go to rehab and leave behind her cell phone (since that's how druggies reach their dealers). She was desperately trying to write down all her contact numbers, just in case she needed them while in rehab.

Her rehab specialist then says to her, "Just throw away your cell phone -- your true friends will call you."

So true!
